If I were a public health student, I might feel vindicated that smart people are for decriminalization of drugs, but what would keep me coming back would be cogent discussions (with cites!) of *how* decriminalization has worked, and what the pluses and minuses of each model are.

Furthermore, while experience with syringe exchanges has shown that the harm of drug use is often much less destructive than the remediable consequences of illegality, public health still has an obligation to be clear about the interventions in question and identify preferred outcomes or proxy endpoints to allow evaluation.
